abstract

introdouction: the purpose of the present study was to determine the possible relationship between gonial angle size and three mandibular morphometric parameters, namely, panoramic mandibular index (pmi), mandibular cortical width (mcw), and antegonial notch depth (ad), in digital panoramic radiographs. materials and methods: pmi, mcw, and ad were calculated in digital panoramic radiographs of 370 dentulous adult subjects with a mean age of 44.2 years and a mean number of remaining teeth of 23.49 ± 7.71. the differences between the mean values of measured parameters were compared between males and females, among various age groups, and between subjects with low and high gonial angles (gonial angle of ≤120 and ≥125, respectively) . the correlation between gonial angle size, pmi, mcw, and ad was also evaluated. t-test, anova, and pearson’s correlation test were used for statistical analysis. a p<0.05 was considered as statistically significant. results: pmi, ad, and mcw(mandibular cartical width) were significantly higher in subjects with low gonial angle (lga) than those with high gonial angle (hga). pmi, ad, and mcw were also significantly higher in males than those in females. significantly negative correlations between the gonial angle and pmi, ad, and mcw were also observed. conclusion: the mandibular radiomorphometric parameters of pmi, ad, and acw are related to sex and gonial angle size.

Gonial angle changes after bilateral unidirectional mandibular distraction in sheep.

It was the aim of this study to investigate radiologically the distraction site in the gonial angle area after three different protocols of unidirectional mandibular distraction in sheep. Bilateral mandibular distraction was performed in nine sheep, and one other sheep served as a sham-operated control. In the nine experimental sheep, three different distraction protocols were used. In three sh...

Investigating the Correlation between Freeway Space and Gonial Angle among Patients with Natural Dentition

Calculating the correct vertical relation between mandible and maxilla is an important factor for success of removable and fixed partial dentures. This study, , was performed in order to determine the correlation between Freeway Space (FWS) and gonial angle. This cross-sectional, analytical study was condcuted in 2018 on 128 patients. For measurement of correlation between FWS and gonial angl...

Assessment of the Relation of Mandibular Cortical Index and Gonial Angle Size in an Adult Iranian Population Using Digital Panoramic Radiography

Objectives: This study sought to assess the relation of mandibular cortical index (MCI) with age, gender and gonial angle size in an Iranian adult population using digital panoramic radiography. Methods: We evaluated 370 digital panoramic radiographs of patients and divided them into five 10-year age groups. Each radiograph was assigned to low (≤120°) or high (≥125°) angle grou...

Comparing panoramic mandibular radiomorphometric indices between osteoporotic and healthy women in Rafsanjan, Iran, 2018

Introduction: Radiomorphometric indices obtained from panoramic radiography are used to quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate osteoporosis. Given the importance of early diagnosing osteoporosis. The present study was conducted to compare osteoporotic and healthy women in Rafsanjan, Iran in terms of mandibular radiomorphometric indices obtained from their panoramic radiographs. Materials and...
